AGA Game of the Month for August, 2020, is Deluxe Galaga AGA!

Deluxe Galaga is a Commodore Amiga shoot’em up arcade game first released in 1993. It’s loosely based on the smash hit arcade game Galaga. Deluxe Galaga was voted in on the TOP 100 GAMES of all time for the Amiga. It got to #19, all the other games on the list was commercial games, except 1 other; Deluxe PacMan also made by Edgar.

You are in control of a small starfighter, and your mission is to protect the earth from alien attackers. When you start, your ship have limited supply of bullets and are moving a bit to slow, but by shooting the aliens you can collect the falling bonuses and get all sorts of weapons, extra speed and a lot of other goodies!

When you are hit, some of the weapon power is lost and also speed and any bonus time you have collected. This loss is bigger on the hard level.

There are double shoot, triple shoot, super weapon, extra life, smart bombs, money, warps, secret bonus level and much more to be collected and added to the starfighter.

Look out for mother ships, rockets, warp malfunctions, super guardians and Super Cash Ship!

There is also a lot of secrets in the game, you can find this secrets yourself, or you can buy them in space-shop. The space-shop will appear every fourth level, but you must have more than 50 credits to enter the shop. There are more than 10 secrets hidden in the game and some that are not listed in the game!!

Have done my best to work this out! 

• Single player - YES
• Money bonus in meteorstorm: Yes (I assume so, I have had 2 so far and yes it gave a bonus)
• Money Limit: Unlimited (don't understand this - can't locate any option in settings)
• Level Limit: Unlimited (don't understand this - can't locate any option in settings)
• Ship Armour: Yes, please! (well yes when you get the bonus 
• Use Mouse as controller: No - (X-Pad on GPi -  no mouse)
• Platform: Emulation (Set to standard A1200) under Amiberry on RetroFlag GPi (Sadly - I don't an AGA Machine)

A Note for everyone, that did not know! Its been included in the standard install of AmiKit since Version 8 (I think, definitely in Version 8 on)

Hope that I still qualify!

Finally had a chance to try this. There's some brutal starts to levels if you're in the wrong spot!

I got 286220 on my a1200 using the above listed settings.

Nudged a little higher and got a new high score on my a1200: 302140

Does anyone know how to preserve my high scores? It seems to delete them all and I'm left with none next time I load it.

If its a WHDLoad version, is it not a function of the config, ie; you have to have it setup to save and also I think - that particular slave - has a save option you can set? Not looked at that side of it for a bit!

Ah yes, I changed the settings in the slave to save in game and it worked once, but crashed the second time I tried.

edit: ok figured it out. If you leave the default as save on exit, DON'T use the standard whdload quit. Use the Esc key to quit properly and it will work.

This is a great game for those that havent played it.  If you love Galaga, you'll love this.  Permanent desktop icon for me on my 1200 now!

A tip for those not able to get into settings/config, I had to upgrade my WHDLoad version to 1.3 which then has a checkbox for config when starting the game.  I also think you can add a tooltype CUSTOM1=1 to show the config page.

Gee wizz!  Great job Jacob.
As you can see in the attached I have tried many times to better my score.
473445 is my best.
I am away from tomorrow for the rest of the month so that will be my best.
Still love this game though, just missed out on another meteor storm in this last one so my score could have been closer to yours, if luck was on my side!  Oh well, next month!
