Hi all, it's almost June.  Guess what!?  I've got my 'arcade' room almost set up, to a point where I can actually sit down in front of my Amigas to play games!!!  I am keen to start up GOTHEM again, and plan to post a couple of new games this weekend!

June 2024 - John Madden Football
« on: May 31, 2024, 03:18:25 pm »
We're back!!!!!

OCS/ECS Game of the Month for June 2024, is John Madden Football!

One of my (NinjaKat) personal favourites when owning an Amiga as a kid, my friends and I would get together on holidays to play this.  I know it is not really a 'scoring' game, so I thought it might be fun to see who gets the best time to score first in a sudden death mode!

If you want to know more about American football, check the Appendix in the manual (link below).  It is worth checking out the manual to learn how to play, and how to control.

Information:
  • Amiga Hardware: OCS
  • Release Year: 1992, 1994
  • Disks: 2
  • WHDLoad: Yes
  • Players: 1 or 2, Simultaneous
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • Developer: Gary Roberts
  • A500 Mini: Not as standard!

Links to game information:

Please refer to the 'Game of the Month Rules and Participation' post for information on how to participate!  Good Luck!

* To qualify: play single player sudden death mode, Buffalo (as CPU - Blue team) vs Washington (Player - Red Team), 5 min quarters, on dome turf, in fair weather (see my attached screenshot for settings). Post a screenshot of your win and time (similar to my test screenshot attached)... on an OCS/ECS machine or equivalent emulator. As per the GOTHEM rules, please confirm the machine/emulator you used, your score, screenshot/photo with score shown.  If the game does not keep score, please let us know where you got up to (without spoilers) with a brief review of your time with the game.  Also state any additional qualification rules stated above, such as playing on a certain mode with certain rules, just so we have a better feeling that you are playing fairly!

Do not use keys, passwords or cheats.

Couldn't wait to start this one!  First score/time -

2 minutes 43 seconds (screenshot of score attached)

for me to score by a field goal.  I wanted the touchdown but when I missed the first push at the 10 yard line I went straight for the kick...  after all it is sudden death!

Looking forward to seeing what others can achieve! :)

Played on my A2000 in NTSC mode, Buffalo vs Washington, 5 min quarters, on dome turf, in fair weather (screenshot of settings attached).

Played a couple more times but could not score in time, in fact, I was beaten to it by the opposition!  At least I fluked a goal in my attempt earlier in the month.

Winner: NinjaKat with a time of 2:43
