Title: August 2024 - Sensible World of Soccer
Post by: NinjaKat on August 04, 2024, 07:45:14 am
OCS/ECS Game of the Month for August 2024, is Sensible World of Soccer[/b]

With the Olympic Games in Paris currently, I thought I would select a sports game, but one that will not be as harsh on controllers as some of them out there!  ;)

From the manual (linked below):
Sensible World of Soccer is a complete management game where you can manage a team throughout a 20 season career. We suggest you start as the manager of a club in the lower divisions in order to progress your career and hope for that offer of the job as a national manager. You can start as the manager of a top team but you will find it much harder to be successful starting at this level.

Sensible World Of Soccer is a totally new game with a variety of new features as follows. There have been a couple of tweaks in the tackling/heading/interception systems. The main difference is that instead of having 100-odd teams and a few simple competitions, Sensible World Of Soccer features practically every professional team, league and cup competition in the world. The other main difference is that all 26,000+ of the real-life players included have accurate personal statistics. You can also now
choose to be a player, a manager or a player-manager for any one of those 1,500-odd teams in any of 146 preset competitions.

Please refer to the 'Game of the Month Rules and Participation (https://www.amigaretro.com/index.php/topic,35.0.html)' post for information on how to participate!  Good Luck!

* To qualify: play single player 'Friendly Match' as player: Australia vs CPU: England, with Options: 5 minute game length, Normal pitch type, Fixed player skills.  Play on an OCS/ECS machine or equivalent emulator. As per the GOTHEM rules, please confirm the machine/emulator you used, your score, screenshot/photo with score shown.  If the game does not keep score, please let us know where you got up to (without spoilers) with a brief review of your time with the game.  Also state any additional qualification rules stated above, such as playing on a certain mode with certain rules, just so we have a better feeling that you are playing fairly!

Wow..  Either I am really bad at this, or this is just an unforgiving game.  Being used to soccer games where the ball sort of 'sticks' to the player, this requires you to get behind the ball and actually push it around!  The best I could manage last night was an 8 to nil loss.  I hope to have another go tonight.

Played on my Amiga 2000, single player 'Friendly Match' as player: Australia vs CPU: England, with Options: 5 minute game length, Normal pitch type, Fixed player skills (see screenshots of settings)

HaHaHa.. I feel the pain! I'd be very happy with an 8 nil loss!  ;)

Well, I feel like I should not have won this month, but I'll take it.

Winner: NinjaKat with an 8 to 0 loss!
