March 2020 - Simulcra
« on: February 29, 2020, 11:32:29 pm »
OCS/ECS Game of the Month for March, 2020, is Simulcra!

The Simulcra unit was thought to be the last best hope for peace. International disputes could be battled out in a simulated environment, in a world with no real guns or bombs. Unfortunately, the system malfunctioned and began generating real weapons and tanks to attack the outside world.

You are the man charged with putting a stop to all of this. In your ground-skimming SRV, remove the power lines that keep Simulcra functional. Shoot out each of the energy projectors which block your path to clear each of the 30 matrices.

The action is viewed from immediately behind you, showing a world of pathways and gaps which rotate as you move your craft, which can also reverse. You will have to fight off guns, planes and everything else the embattled system can throw at you. Destroying these releases pods which give extras such as improved weaponry and extra energy when collected. A full map of the area is provided.

The objective of Simulcra is to dismantle the Force field that encircles your Base.(well its not so much a base, more like a large platform really, but with the interest rates being what they are you have to take what you can get.) To dismantle the force field you must shoot out the revolving generators and the non revolving pylons which are littered around the platforms.

As well as pylons and generators there are lots of Aliens. Shooting these aliens not only turns them into Cosmic Rubble but also releases Pluspods which, when bumped into, provide you with bonus rockets and fuel. Occasionally you come across a barn like building. Shooting this reveals a small version of your craft, run into it for a bonus life.

Every now and again you come across gaps which you need to cross. Fortunately you have wings (neat eh!). These wings can be opened for flying and retracted when you have landed safely. If you don't retract them you are likely to have
them shot off. Possibly leaving you stranded on an Isolated platform, In which case you will have to trade in your armour for a new set of wings, leaving you about as safe as a Hedgehog crossing a motorway.

Well thought I'd kick it off.  Haven't read any manual on this game yet so I have no idea what I am doing...  got to a score 6005 just shooting around the map, and couldn't work out where to go next....  Hope I get a chance to work this out... cool game!

Score: 6005, WHDLoad on my A1200

Was going to have a try last night but I must have skipped over that in my pi build.

Time to transfer it over and have a go!

Hi all,

Was disappointed to miss out winning pinball illusions last month but I gave it a good go. Well done to Ninjakat!

I had a go at Simulcra tonight on my Amiga 500 with Vampire 500 installed running CoffinOS r54. (WHDload with Vampire In turtle mode)

I got a best highscore of 25725.

Over to you!
